Revisions helps celebrate the Persian New Year!

Last year we had several customers tell us that we had a few products that fit perfectly with a yearly ethnic cultural celebration.  The event is called Nowruz and is the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year.

Nowruz, meaning "A New Day", marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in the Iranian calendar.  It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed.  The day's traditions include a deep spring cleaning of houses and visiting one another.  Typically the day before Nowruz, houses are given a complete spring cleaning, refreshing things for the new year to come and to receive a multitude of visitors the next day.  During Nowruz, families are expected to pay short visits to relatives and friends.  Gifts are exchanged and both those hosting and those visiting usually provide plenty to eat and drink.

One may wonder where Revisions products could fit into this spring celebration?  At each house there is a table, called the Haft Sin, set up with 7 certain symbolic elements.  They are the 7 elements of Life, namely Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Plants, Animals, and Human.  Families attempt to set the most beautiful Haft Sin they can, both to celebrate the traditional and spiritual side of the holiday, but also to be noticed by the relatives as they come to call on Nowruz.  The 7 elements are Mirror symbolizing Sky, Apple symbolizing Earth, Candles symbolizing Fire, Golab rose water symbolizing Water, Sabzeh wheat, or barley sprouts symbolizing Plants, Goldfish symbolizing Animals, Painted Eggs symbolizing Humans and Fertility.

Now you may begin to see the connection to Revisions!  We have our laser cut acrylic Rococo style mirror and our popular Egg Candles and Egg Sprouts.  The Egg Sprouts in particular have been a huge hit for the Haft Sin tables, as they represent the "plant" and the "human and fertility".   Last week, we had a large order of 145 eggs with seeds being given individually to students at a school as part of their Persian New Year celebration and presentation.

It is fun to know that we've had customers purchase our products to use for their own beautiful Haft Sin table.
